Form carpenters employed by Hensel Phelps are responsible for the assembly and removal of the forms that are used for the concrete installation. This position requires the regular lifting and placement of form panels weighing 80 pounds or more. Carpenters are required to hold the panel in place while fastening the panel to form a contiguous form system. Carpenters use assorted hand tools, including ten-pound sledge hammers, shovels, picks, handsaws, skill saws, and drills. Much of the formwork requires carpenters to hang off the form using appropriate fall protection while they fasten the top portions of the assembly. Embedded assemblies such as anchor bolts in the concrete must also be installed, ranging in weight up to 100 pounds.
Hensel Phelps also employs carpenters for installation of door frames and doors. This job requires carpenters to handle 14-gauge and 16-gauge metal door frames on a regular basis that vary in weight from 50 pounds to 100 pounds.
With the exception of the general foremen, all carpenter foremen employed by Hensel Phelps are required to work with their tools performing all of the functions described above.
Carpenters are also required at various times to do virtually all of the carpenter support activities performed by laborers.
Essential job functions include:
Lift and carry objects and materials of various weights up to 100 pounds.
Repetitive climbing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and reaching over head.
Use of hands and wrists with various tools.
Prolonged use of jackhammer and pavement breaker.
Climb ladders multiple times a day.
Push and pull objects up to 100 pounds (sometimes suspended from hoist).
Use of wheelbarrows and brooms.
Repetitive use of hands and wrists using power, rotational, and vibration tools.
Tolerate legally permissible exposure to dusts and chemicals, such as cement dust, solvents, and curing compounds.
